We exist to connect South Africans who are passionate about our country and our shared future. We link those who want to learn an African language with tutors who can teach them, face to face in small groups or individually.
Imbeko consists of a 12 week course, held at the home/s of members of the group, the Tutor’s home, or another convenient location. The course costs between R1 600 and R3 500, including the cost of a CD and course notes.
Learning a new language is not only a sign of respect, it’s also widely acknowledged to be one of the most powerful ways of developing your brain and delaying the onset of Alzheimers and other forms of dementia.
Imbeko is operated and administered by The Social Project, a non-profit organisation working in the education arena and SkillUp tutors, largely using material developed by the late Len Keating – a Scottish polyglot who was passionate about teaching Xhosa to South Africans who couldn’t speak an African tongue. This is his legacy.
